The protracted period of war and the deterioration of the security situation in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria have created a humanitarian catastrophe. In 2015, more than two million people risked their lives to reach Europe and Finland. The right to protection and to life is a universal human right and the help is our duty.
A large number of asylum-seekers and human rights violating Finland’s tightened refugee policy have led to increased pressure and hurry in the Finnish Immigration Service. This has produced negative and incorrect decisions that in worst case set human lives in danger. Forced returns of asylum seekers should be stopped immediately until the errors have been corrected and asylum seekers’ home countries are once again safe.
Asylum seekers have been demonstrating in the Helsinki Railway Square since February 10th, 2017. It is a disgrace to the hundred-year-old Finland, how the situation is handled. Now is the time to hear the people and do justice!
Antiracism Oulu supports the legitimate claims of asylum seekers and hopes that everyone concerned about the situation participates in organized support demonstrations in Oulu and other cities on Saturday, March 11th.
